SMITH, Robert James, age 80, of Huber Heights, passed away peacefully Monday, April 13, 2026, at his residence surrounded by family. Robert was born on October 6th, 1945, to Harold “Artie” and Florence Smith in Manhattan, New York. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother; and two grandchildren. An avid sports fan, Robert enjoyed horse racing, boxing, and football, but his greatest joy was spending time and watching movies with his wife. Robert was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He later worked as a GS-13 in Logistics Command for the U.S. Government, retiring after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Marie Smith of 56 years; daughters and son-in-law, Katherine Smith, Amanda and Josh Dressel; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Christie Smith; and former son-in-law, Eddie Stover. He is also survived by his grandchildren, David Smith, Jonathan Stover, Jennifer Stover, Kyra (Dan) Merrill, Eliana Dressel, Aaliyah (Dakota) Duncan, Trey Dressel, Jeffrey Smith Jr., Lacie Ruh, Cody Ruh, Nathan Smith, Tiffany Smith, William Smith, Larry Smith, Seth Smith, George Smith, Isaiah Smith, and Jayden Smith; great-grandchildren, Nolen Duncan, Easten Duncan, Levine Hoegger; and many other relatives and friends.
A man of quiet strength and steady hands, Robert was the true north of his family. He was the rock that stayed firm in every storm and the first person everyone turned to in times of need. To his family, he was the provider of comfort, wisdom, and a love that never wavered.
Private services are at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Marker & Heller Funeral Homes, Huber Heights Chapel.
